So what's a scientist doing creating websites and doing graphic design?

One day I decided I wanted to make a website to advertise Earth Day. I undertook to learn how to create a website, had a lot of fun, and the rest is history. Five years later, I have had the pleasure to design websites and printed material like brochures, newsletters, and posters for a variety of clients.

My scientific background and my experiene with the Extension Service enables me to understand the types of products these groups need to convey information to their clientele.

I volunteer in my community as well. As a result, I have worked with several non-profit organizations to advertise their programs and help educate the public about specific issues. This has been an exciting venture; I enjoy working with non-profits.

Designing print products and websites is a new experience every time and there is always something new to learn. Working with clients is fun and challenging; I enjoy this work and I hope it shows.

I have degrees in Environmental Science and Policy (BA, Duke University) and Forest Ecology (MS, Oregon State University).

about tom knecht

My business associate, Tom Knecht, provides technical writing, editing, and project management services.

He is a skilled writer, editor, communications planner, and leader of communication service groups. He has extensive experience in preparing, organizing, and publishing technical and nontechnical information for general audiences.

He also offers proven capabilities for working with technical and scientific text and graphics in fields such as engineering, education, psychology, natural resources, and food and fiber production.

He has edited and managed the production of several books and a multitude of educational and promotional products in printed and electronic form. He currently specializes in assembling and preparing content for Web sites and printed materials. He offers workshops on intellectual property rights, focusing on the basics of copyright and trademark law.

education

Tom received his bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned a doctorate in adult education from North Carolina State University in 1994. He is a 1997 graduate of the North Carolina Extension Institute for Systems Leadership.

He is a member of the Southern Public Relations Federation and has served on the board of the Starkville Chapter of the Public Relations Association of Mississippi.
